“I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”
2 Corinthians 6:18
How sweet the words “I will be a Father to you” are to the ears of those who recognize what that truly means! Regardless of our sins and faults, the Lord Almighty claims us as His own! We are accepted not because of our own merit but because of the sacrificial love of His Son. Therein lies the totality of His love for us!
In the last Avengers movie, Endgame, Tony Stark’s daughter reminds him that she loves him “3,000.” In her attempt to show that she loves her daddy in the fullest way, she identifies the largest number she knows (3,000) as the most complete amount of love that she can transfer to her father.
As cute as that is, and we have all done something similar with our own children (have you ever told them you love them to the moon and back?), we can be assured that we have something way better than 3,000! Even greater than the distance to the moon and back! Through God’s acceptance of us, we have been redeemed! We are the recipients of His unending love!
“To know God as our Father – our almighty, loving Father – is the highest, richest, and most rewarding aspect of our whole relationship with Him.” J.I. Packer
Call to Action
In the song Good, Good Father (which we sang yesterday in church), we sing the words:
You’re a good good father, It’s who you are, it’s who you are, it’s who you are
And I’m loved by you, It’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am
This week I encourage you to play the song Good, Good Father and to sing it together as a family. Be assured of your acceptance by Him and truly reflect on His claim that you belong to Him. Teach your children that they also are loved by Him and that He has claimed them as His own.
