Romans 10:13 – Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Maya Angelou, an American poet, storyteller, and civil rights activist said “I believed that there was a God because I was told it by my grandmother and later by other adults.  But when I found that I knew not only that there was God but that I was a child of God, when I understood that, when I comprehended that, more than that, when I internalized that, ingested that, I became courageous.”

Many of us have had a similar experience when it comes to belief in God.  And rightly so.  The Bible, after all, does instruct parents to train up their children (Proverbs 22:6) and to make faith for all of life (Deuteronomy 11:19). However, there is something special that occurs when, as Maya Angelou points out, we finally understand what being a child of God is all about.

What a humbling realization it is to be sons and daughters of the Creator of the Universe!

As children of God, we must remember that to whom much is given, much is required (Luke 12:48). Max Lucado reminds us that “To call yourself a child of God is one thing. To be called a child of God by those who watch your life is another thing altogether.”

Call to Action

Have you completely internalized what being a child of God means? Is the life you’re living a representation of being a son or daughter of the Good Father? What is keeping you from embracing your identity in Him?

In the beautiful song, You Say, by Lauren Daigle, the opening words resonate with all of us at some point in our lives:

I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I’m not enough

Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up

Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low?

Remind me once again just who I am, because I need to know

Belief is knowing that through Christ you are enough! As a child of God, your identity is in Him…not in the world! Be courageous in this belief and know that as you live out your daily life for Him, He is preparing an eternal place for you!
