Toddlers

Toddlers
Ages 18 Months – 24 months
The toddler age is a vital stepping stone to a child’s future. Children within this age group start reaching big milestones quickly. At Ardent we begin implementing more structure focusing on communication and independence. This age is all about developing necessary skills that will follow them well into the future.
Explorers Class
Ages 18 – 24 Months
Our Explorers Class is all about exploration and active learning! We use a combination of the Abeka Curriculum and active play, to help these little ones grow their curiosity.
Explorers Enrichment Activities
Social & Emotional Development
At this age, children are developing their ability to show affection and empathy while enjoying parallel play and beginning to show interest in group play. Our teachers are skilled in using Ardent’s Wise Discipline approach, which helps guide children calmly through the concepts of sharing and respecting others.
Classroom Development
Using the A Beka curriculum, we focus on helping children recognize letters, numbers, and phonetic sounds. We stimulate cognitive growth through interactive play, music, and engaging classroom lessons.
Language Development
Language development is a key focus in this class. Teachers encourage verbal communication by expanding vocabulary and helping children use words more effectively. Phonetic sounds are also continued to be practiced, strengthening language skills.
Physical Development
In the Explorers class, children are enhancing their fine motor skills and coordination. We support their development by providing a range of toys in the classroom and creating outdoor play areas designed for them to explore independently.
Toddlers
Ages 2 Years Old – 2 ½ Years Old
Our toddler class helps establish manners and continues to grow the skills they are already learning through the Abeka Curriculum. Our toddlers classroom has a focus on building a consistent potty training routine.
Toddlers Enrichment Activities
Cognitive Development
As our toddlers progress with the Abeka Curriculum, they work on mastering the recognition of letters, numbers, colors, and shapes. They also begin to trace and write letters and numbers. Arts and crafts are also used to enhance fine motor skills and support their creativity.
Character Development
Toddlers are becoming more aware of their surroundings and the people around them. At Ardent, we establish a character foundation early by introducing manners and concepts such as “love your neighbor as yourself.” We use a faith-based approach to teach children how to interact positively with others.
Creative Development
We want children to achieve strong academic success, but we also want them to have fun and be creative. We use activities like dress-up, building with blocks, and imaginative play to foster creativity and imagination. This balanced approach supports cognitive and emotional development, allowing children to explore different roles and situations.
Potty Training
Potty training is an important part of our Toddler program. We help families establish a consistent routine that is easy to use in the classroom and at home. We use positive reinforcement and patience to help children successfully learn to potty and gain a little bit more independence.
Beginners
Ages 2 ½ Years – 3 ½ Years
Once in the Beginners classroom, children are typically on their way to being fully potty trained. We continue to focus on building a strong academic and character foundation, preparing them to enter our preschool program with manners and better emotional regulation.
Whether you’re new to our program or your child is still working towards these milestones, we encourage you to schedule a tour. We’re excited to help your toddler advance by providing a strong foundation for their growth and development!
Beginners Enrichment Activities
Literacy Development
At Ardent, literacy is a cornerstone of our curriculum. In our Beginners class, many children have already mastered letter recognition and the associated sounds. We build on this foundation by introducing letter blends, helping them understand how simple words are constructed.
Motor Skill Development
Hand-eye coordination is a crucial skill to develop during this stage of life. At Ardent, we foster this development by encouraging children to trace numbers and shapes. We also provide a variety of toys designed to enhance both fine and gross motor skills. For additional support, parents can enroll their children in our extracurricular programs. These programs offer focused activities to further refine hand-eye coordination and gross motor skills.
Personal Development
Ardent wants to equip children with an appropriate amount of independence and responsibility. In our Beginners class, children are learning how to go to the bathroom completely on their own and washing their hands by themselves. They also learn the importance of cleaning up after themselves when they complete meals. We want children to understand the importance of personal responsibility.
Cognitive Development
At this age, children are developing stronger problem-solving and reasoning skills, as well as improving their memory and recall abilities. We support this developmental growth through interactive story books, memory games, and building toys. Additionally, we use interactive storybooks to enhance their ability to remember and use descriptive details.
Our Toddler Program is designed to support growing independence and build strong communication skills during this important stage of development. We hope this page has helped you learn more—but nothing compares to seeing it in person!
